About the Programme
For our most devoted students – whether they are considering a professional music training, or simply wishing to realize their full potential as artists – Certificate in Music Performance is a one-year full-time course that gives students the framework and resources to immerse themselves in building a strong foundation in music knowledge and skills. The course provides you with structured modules, such as music theory, aural training, and the principal study as well as Songwriting and Diction.
The MODULES
Music Theory I & Music Theory II
Aural & Sight Singing I & Aural & Sight Singing II
The module aims to set up a foundation that further the development of practical musicianship in terms of aural and sight reading, and to improve your musical ability by developing a more intuitive understanding of what you hear.
Song Writing & Diction I & Song Writing & Diction II
The module enables students to acquire a good foundation in the English language, allowing them to build and reinforce their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Students are taught to communicate in English for the better of further studies and career opportunities.
Performance Studies I & Performance Studies II
The module aims to guide students how to stand out as a performer (Vocalist, keyboard Player, Drummer, Guitarist), engage their audience and respond to other musicians at a high level. Also, it will help young performer to understand the value in what they are learning as he or she become confident, creative musicians.

Skills & Musicianship Test
- Pass SCM’s Music Theory Placement Test
- Pass SCM’s Audition: (i.) Instrumentalists:
3 to 6 minutes’ performance, TWO contrasting pieces (ii.) Singers: 3 to 6 minutes’ performance, TWO contrasting songs
Language competency
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 3.5 administered by the British Council, or
- GCE ‘N’ Level English Language – Pass, or
- Other English Language Proficiency Tests (TOEFL etc) – will be considered on a case-by-case basis
(In case applicants who are unable to provide documentary, evidence showing the necessary the English Language proficiency, is required to sit for an English Placement Test.)
Course Progression
The Certificate in Music Studies prepares students with no or low music background. Upon completion of the course, students shall progress to the music diploma programmes offered by local and overseas music institutions
